Spotify Proxy Settings at workplace Hey all, my workplace uses a proxy that uses our default credentials. I'm able to get the spotify website play.spotify.com to work when I set the proxy up on my browser but I can't seem to set it up on the Desktop App. Today I’ve spent about 2 hours trying to solve this puzzle of configuring Spotify to work with a proxy with user and password. I’ve installed Spotify normally using the.dmg from their website.

After searching around for a longer time how to fix this problem in Software-Update, I finally found out how to manage this: Spotify not playing songs on computer mac.
1. Delete PLISTs
/Users/<my username>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
/Users/<my username>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist.lockfile
/Users/<my username>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.softwareupdate.plist https://newspy321.weebly.com/blog/slideshow-apps-that-use-spotify.
[/ indicates the path from the boot hard drive to folders inside. Use Go to Folder in the Go menu to navigate to that folder
replacing <my username> with the login user trying to access the store, the file in question is after the last slash. Quitting from the Mac App Store is recommended before you delete these files, by going to the Mac App Store menu and selecting Quit.]
2. In Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal type or copy/paste:
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
[Hit enter/return key when done typing the above. Enter your administrative password when requested followed by return/enter key.]
Spotify hacked free.
Mac OS X 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 users should use instead:
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache

3. Restart

Then:
1. Open System Preferences - Network
2. Highlight active connection
3. Click Advanced.
4. TCP/IP
5. Renew DHCP Lease
Step 2, mDNSResponder issues should not happen unless:
1. The internet service provider is not supporting your IPv6 or IPv4 configuration.
2. The internet service provider has latency issues, such as satellite connections.
3. The internet service provider has a proxy/firewall configuration getting in the way. Often this setup is common with schools and corporate networks.
4. The DNS at the internet service provider is corrupted. To isolate this, change the DNS to an http://www.opendns.org/ one.
Also generally speaking sudo commands should not be issued, or moving any files after a sudo command without ensuring file sharing is first turned off. The good portion of this tip is the reboot which clears the login for sudo, which can leave your machine vulnerable until the reboot has been executed.
Software such as Little Snitch, and software firewalls may also interfere with the connection, as well as peer2peer software.
Why Use a Proxy for Spotify?
There are two main reasons to use proxies with Spotify.
The first one is anonymizing your traffic. Some people like to keep their online actions hidden from their internet service provider or surveillance by third parties. Since proxies effectively help hide traffic by changing the IP address that was originally assigned to you, it is a great solution for those who wish a greater degree of privacy.
The second reason is bypassing geographical restrictions a.k.a. geo blocks. Not all Spotify content is available to all of its users, and some artists may only be available in specific regions or countries. Proxies change your IP address to that of a different country, allowing you to access content that would be otherwise unavailable.
Sometimes, Spotify proxies are also used with bots. Their purpose then is to generate fake listens and perform other automated tasks on platforms such as Spotify, Soundcloud, Apple Music and others. This is a black hat marketing strategy used by artists to either increase their popularity or revenue from these streaming services.
The final reason that your organization (school or workplace) may require connecting to the web via a proxy. In this case you will also need to set up Spotify to use proxies.

How to Choose a Spotify Proxy?
Proxies for Spotify require no special features. You can choose either residential or datacenter proxies. The preferences pane of Spotify writes that either HTTP or SOCKS proxies are supported. SOCKS proxies are better suited for streaming so this is what we would recommend using in this case. Simply check out the providers above and choose the one which best fits your needs.

Configure Spotify to Use a Proxy
If you want to use Spotify with a proxy, you will first need to configure the Spotify application. You can access these settings by going to the Preferences pane. Once there, you will see these options:
- The host proxy name. Usually either a numerical IP address or a web address.
- The proxy type. A drop-down list below Proxy includes several options; leave the default option, Auto-Detect, selected if you’re unsure.
- Your username and password. If you have to log into your proxy to use it, enter this information in the appropriate text boxes.
- The port number. Like a channel frequency that the proxy server needs to know so that it can initiate a connection.
After filling in this information, you should be good to go. That’s it! This is all you need to know in order to use a proxy with Spotify.
